Brine Disposal

Reverse osmosis is an effective method to remove salt and contaminants from water. However, it also rejects concentrates and brine that include dissolved solids, pretreatment additives, organics, and other particulates into a smaller stream of waste. The biggest problem with brine is to find an economical disposal method that follows regulatory compliance. There are many alternative ways to dispose of brine. The brine disposal alternative section will research a feasible method to recover salt from brine for potential funding. The evaporation test will help to determine the amount of salt that can be recovered from the brine. Based on the results from the evaporation test, the appropriate evaporation rate and volume of the evaporation pond can be calculated and designed. Evaporation ponds are considered the option in disposing of the brine and salt recovery can be used to collect funding for the reverse osmosis system or disposed of in a landfill.
